REMINDER TO SEEK GOD’S WISDOM

Many people decorate their homes with beautiful Christmas wreaths. Like Christmas trees, wreaths can be real or artificial. People often decorate wreaths with ribbons, bows, pinecones, ornaments, flowers, lights, and many other items. Wreaths are beautiful and brighten a home.

Just as wreaths bring beauty to a home, living by God’s Word brings beauty to our lives. In another reading, we saw how our lives can make the Gospel beautiful. In this devotion, we see how wisdom can make our lives beautiful!

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction. Hear, my son, your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching; Indeed, they are a graceful wreath to your head and ornaments about your neck.

Proverbs 1:7-9

In this proverb, a father encourages his son to get knowledge and wisdom. The father tells his son that knowledge comes from fearing God. For believers in Jesus Christ, fearing God means to be in awe of God and to worship and respect Him.

As we read, believe, and live God’s word, we know and love Him more. God’s word enables us to gain knowledge and skill to live well. As the Lord helps us to understand His word, we make wise choices, can decide between right and wrong, avoid problems and sins, earn respect, and guide others in the blessings of wisdom. Living by faith in God through the wisdom of His Word brings beauty and blessing to our lives. We will be as though we have wreaths around our head and ornaments around our neck!
