REMINDER THAT GOD VISITED US
Christmas gives a chance for relatives and friends to visit. We enjoy talking, celebrating, singing carols, eating good food, and playing games together. Starting at Thanksgiving and lasting through New Year’s Day, people travel ‘over the river and through the woods’ to visit their loved ones.

God visiting us includes more than God spending time with us and talking to us. God visited us because He was concerned about us, wanted to be with us and care for us. Christmas reminds us of God’s mercy in caring for us by redeeming us from our sin. Jesus redeems us by dying on the cross to pay the penalty of our sin.
God desires that we visit those in need to show them concern and care. James 1:27 states “religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” Christmas provides opportunities to spend good times with family and friends. But our visiting should also include showing active concern and caring for those in need.
